AN DOMHAN is a Mixed Reality experience (-! Virtual and Augmented! -), adapted from the Irish legend “The tragic death of the children of Tuireann“. This legend tells of the rivalry between two heroes and deities of the Tuatha Dé Danann, who are called Lugh and Brian. Between revenge and redemption, the story revolves around a murder and its consequences. AN DOMHAN, which means Earth in Irish, presents himself as a third character in the legend. The earth as an element, witness to the murder and a place of burial becomes origin and finality, interface of the tension of the two heroes. The land is also the land of Ireland, environment and epicenter of a strange cartography that is constructed during the experience and that extends far beyond the country. Earth, as a “product” (1) of the work. The Earth resulting from the work as “[…] poses it in the open like that-which-closes.” (2) A singular space, The Earth as a narrative subject in the work, allows us to explore the darkest corners of Irish legend.

This interdisciplinary project, between Art Sciences, Information and Communication Sciences, Letters, Languages and Civilizations is part of two axes and three teams of the LLSETI Laboratory: Axis 3 “Interactions between the State and the individual” (-! Team 1 “Languages, cultures, population movements” and Axis 2 “Text, Images and Digital Arts“ (-! Team 1 “Les Fabriques des Histoires” + Team 2: Impossible Realities! -) This work of research, under the supervision of / with Noémie Beck and Ghislaine Chabert, is i-REELIZED by Gaëtan Le Coarer, doctoral student of the LLSETI Laboratory (under the supervision of Ghislaine Chabert and Marc Veyrat, whose thesis subject is: “Comic strip and Mixed Reality, towards new narrative spaces”) This will allow us to question these “Mixed Realities”, as much in research creation as at the level of narration strategies, uses and visual methodologies, to through the potentialities and specificities of this device VR + AR linked to the ®-INTERPRETATION of an Irish legend. Charlène Ibos also participated in the first phases of its development, during her laboratory internship of Master 1 Digital Creation.
